![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The characters are relatable, interesting, and well developed. I really enjoyed reading the story that I stayed up late nights trying to finish. The story starts off with an online list of the top 50 prettiest girls at the school. This story is about three 8th graders Eva, Sophie, and Nessa who stand up for themselves and others. As the three girls band together, they begin to stand up not just for themselves, but for one another, too. Sophie is sick of the bullying she’s endured after being relegated to number two.Īnd Nessa is tired of everyone else trying to tell her who she is. until a list appears online, ranking the top fifty prettiest girls in the eighth grade.Įve is disgusted by the way her body is suddenly being objectified by everyone around her. THE PRETTIEST: It’s the last thing Eve Hoffmann expected to be, the only thing Sophie Kane wants to be, and something Nessa Flores-Brady knows she’ll never be. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() There are three different plot strands: Bridge, who’s struggling to find purpose in high school after being in a car accident that separated her from her best friends, Sherm, who’s writing letters to his absent grandfather, and the mystery girl, who’s done something unspeakable.Īll of these strands were interesting, and that’s not normally the case with structures like this. Goodbye Stranger is so well crafted because it makes sure there’s always something going on, with a hint of mystery around the edge. I’m pleased to say, once I’d finished it, it continued to tick boxes…and make me want to eat cinnamon toast. So, Goodbye Stranger definitely ticked boxes on paper. ![]() Recently, I’ve been wanting to give middle grade more of a chance, and coming-of-age is one of my favourite sub-genres. Note: We received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.Īfter first hearing about this book it sounded like exactly the type of thing I love to read. ![]() |
